Nigeria Highlights (2): Six Year Old Stakeholders
It makes all the difference when you develop a product alongside the people who will be using it. This Lagos primary school took pity on a Word document story I'd typed about weddings and days of the week last summer, and let me share it with the then Year 2s. We broke into teams, we drew the pictures (because there weren't any at that stage), we learned new vocabulary, tested our phonics, and stole points from others teams by listening better than them (ha ha ha!). Having taken the feedback of my six year old stakeholders on board, I returned with the published book to present it to Estaport Primary School in Lagos one November morning in assembly. (Yes, we're rocking short sleeves in November.)
They were overjoyed to see their school's name printed in the acknowledgements, just as I am overjoyed that they enjoyed reading it.
And because there are always new six year olds, the new Year 2 wanted to read The Wedding Week too. (The team in the front of class clearly know their stuff.)
Thank you, Estaport!
