Kio Global

This month I had the privilege to return to Lagos, and to Estaport Primary School. I met Year 2 there and read with them last June, but this time it was a tougher trip. This year I went for the first time as a writer! I also visited Year 1 and 2 at Supreme Education Foundation School.
Using my first children's book manuscript, The Wedding Week, Year 2 did a literacy workshop about weddings. We shared stories about weddings we'd been to, and the different foods, clothing and music we experienced, and about weddings around the world. We also practiced our phonics words and illustrated each day of the week in the story.
My advice to you if you're ever planning to write a children's book: before you go to a publisher, get a team of 6 year old consultants. If it can withstand their creative and intellectual questions, you are on to something. If it can't, don't worry. Take their advice and keep writing!
Thank you to all the teachers who let me invade their classrooms. Thank you Year 1 and 2 for your questions and answers, and most of all for your proto illustrations of this book.
